Who We Are

The actual installation of the church was accomplished in September, on the fifth Sunday, by a committee composed of George Brewton, Henry Woods, Henry Herd, and Henry Hoke with Rev. B. Snow as chairman.

Bethel Church of Alexandria and Mount ·Sinai of Weaver Station, both assisted in the institution of this young church. New Prospect of Holly Spring and Mount Canaan Church were guests.

In the beginning

On the fourth Sunday in October 1872, the new church had its first business meeting and called Rev. G.P. Brewton as its first pastor. Rev. Brewton accepted the call and served faithfully for two years.

The first elected officers of New Hope were Newton Alexandra as clerk, with Larkin Francis and George Woodward as its first deacons.

The second pastor of New Hope was Rev. B. Snow, who served in that capacity for approximately one year. Rev. C.P. Pyles, a young and promising minister was called as the third pastor. Under the leadership of Rev. Pyles, the old church building was completed in 1876.
